Work begins on Cupar Care Village

The project to build the new Cupar Care Village is making progress.

The Fife Health and Social Care Partnership project, to replace the Northeden Care Home, has already seen advanced groundworks completed and the site cleared.

Councillor Graeme Downie, Fife Council’s Health spokesperson and Partnership Integrated Board member, Councillor Judy Hamilton, Fife Council spokeperson for Housing and Building Services and Cupar ward Councillor Margaret Kennedy paid a visit recently to mark the start of the project’s main works programme.

Fife Council’s Building Services team will again be main contractor on site, turning the plans into reality.

Once complete, the care village will house a new 24-bed care home and adjoining 12 extra care houses.

The village will also have a bespoke day service facility for adults and a day service facility for older people that will be supported by voluntary sector partners.

Cupar will be the fifth to be completed as part of the commitment to replace care facilities with properties fit for the future.

Methilhaven Care Village opened last year, following on from Ostlers House in Kirkcaldy, Napier House in Glenrothes and Lindsay House in Lumphinans.

Fiona McKay, Head of Strategic Planning, Performance and Commissioning, Fife Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “It’s brilliant that work has begun on site in Cupar and it will be exciting to see the project as it progresses and take shape.

“We are also delighted to be on the journey to opening our fifth fantastic, state-of-the-art facility here in Fife. This is part of the Partnership’s commitment to ensure we have a high standard of residential care home settings across Fife providing high quality care for Fifers now and in the future.”

Fife Council’s health spokesperson Councillor Graeme Downie said: “This will be a fantastic new facility for the area and is a key project in our continuing programme to replace our care homes with new, up to date, modern facilities.”

The council’s spokesperson for housing and building services Cllr Judy Hamilton added: “Fife Council’s building services is the main contractor building the care village and I am delighted to welcome 12 council flats for tenants with extra-care needs, while supporting jobs and apprenticeships in the construction industry.

"The building is being constructed to a very high standard of energy efficiency, responding to the climate emergency and the need to reduce energy costs for tenants."
