Plans for a £5.5 million purpose built respite care facility in Glenrothes have been given the green light.

A business case outlining the project has been approved by Fife Council on Thursday 29th May 2025.

The respite facility will be built on the former Forward Centre in Beaufort Drive, Glenrothes with work expected to start in autumn 2027.

It will provide bespoke respite accommodation for adults with complex needs as well as the required amenities for staff.

Fife Council will build the facility with Fife Health and Social Care Partnership delivering services once the project is completed in the autumn 2028.

Jillian Torrens, Head of Complex and Critical Care, Fife Health and Social Care Partnership, explained: “Getting approval for the business case is an important first step in this project.

“Having a purpose built facility like this in the local community will help the Partnership reduce reliance on commissioning services for people with complex needs in placements out with Fife and away from their family and friends networks and communities.

“Not only will this free up resources, it will ensure people are supported in the best environment and as near to home as possible. We will be working closely with Fife Council on this project and work will now begin on developing the detailed building plans as well as on plans to engage with the local community about the project.”

Fife Council Leader Cllr David Ross commented: "I'm delighted we're investing £5.5 million in this facility which will provide much needed local respite accommodation for adults with complex needs.

"This fit for purpose, modern facility will help keep respite services local, as well as improving accommodation for those who really need these vital services."
