Meal Makers is a local food-sharing project connecting volunteers who have a passion for cooking, with neighbours, many of who are older, and who would appreciate a home-cooked meal.

Volunteers are connected to members of their community by using an online platform – once the cook (volunteer) and the diner (neighbour) are matched, the cook prepares an extra meal in their own home and delivers it to the diner. Meal shares can be weekly, fortnightly or just now and again – whatever works for the cook and diner.

John Caffrey tells us what he thinks of this initiative, “Maureen makes some really delicious dishes, but it isn’t just about the food, it’s about friendship too. It doesn’t sound like much, but it is something I look forward to each week. It’s strange that to think a year ago we didn’t know each other, yet now we’re good neighbours”.
